Member of Kurdistan teachers association detained in Iran

Khaled Ahmadi, a retired teacher, a member of the Kurdistan Teachers Association and the election coordinator for the board of directors election in Sanandaj, was detained by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran just hours before the board elections of this association.

According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, at the early hours on Monday, April 29, 2024, personnel from the Intelligence Services in Sanandaj raided the residence of Khaled Ahmadi, a member of the Kurdistan Teachers' Association and an environmental activist, and taken him into custody without presenting legal warrant.

Hengaw has learned that Khaled Ahmadi was arrested while serving as the elections director for the Kurdistan Teachers' Association, with plans for online elections planned to take place yesterday.

As of the time of this report, precise details regarding the reasons for the arrest and the charges brought against Mr. Ahmadi are not available. Efforts by his family to inquire about his status have been unsuccessful.
