Safa Aaeli, uncle of Jina Amini, was detained around the anniversary of State-sanctioned killing of Jina Amini, has been sentenced to a total of 5 years, 4 months, and 17 days of imprisonment and additional penalties including travel ban and ban from expressing views about the government forces killed during the “Jin, Jian, Azadi” movement, The charges against him include participation in protests against internal security, dissemination of anti-government propaganda, and insulting the Supreme Leader.
According to reports received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Safa Aaeili , 30 years old was convicted by the branch 1 of the revolutionary court in Saqqez, led by chief Judge Javad Mostafaei. The charges including in 3 years, 6 months, and 1 day of imprisonment for plotting and conspiring against internal security, 7 months and 16 days for propagating against the regime, and 15 months and 1 day for insulting Khamenaei the Supreme Leader, concluding total of 5 years, 4 months, and 17 days of imprisonment.
The stringent part of the verdict, specifically 3 years, 6 months, and 1 day, is executable considering the days spent in detention, in addition two year travel ban as a supplementary penalty. In accordance with Article 7 of the 2020 Penal Code, one/third of the harshest punishment has been suspended for 3 years, contingent on non-interaction with detainees of the anniversary of the State-sanctioned killing of Jina Amini in Saqqez. This suspension also requires monthly reporting to the intelligence office and completion of three educational, ethical, and religious courses.
Furthermore, Saffa Aaeili is sentenced to document the biography of one of the repressive government forces killed during the “women, life, freedom” Movement and express his personal interpretation of the autobiographical book, disseminating it as an article to the department of corrections and publish a voice recording through one of the popular social media channels in the city of Saqqez.
Safa Aaeili, was brutally assaulted during his detention by intelligence forces at his residence during the anniversary commemoration of Jina Amini's murder on September 5, 2023. He was temporarily released on bail from Sanandaj Central Prison on October 17, 2023, after 42 days of detention, upon posting a bail of one billion and two hundred million tomans until the completion of the judicial proceedings.
