Hengaw : A Kurdish asylum seeker  who set himself on fire in front of the UN office in Erbil last week has died in due to severe injuries.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, in the early morning hours of Monday, may 24, 2021, Behzad Mahmoudi, an asylum seeker from Bukan who set himself on fire six days ago in front of the UN office in Erbil, died of a severe injuries .

Earlier, it was  reported that Behzad Mahmoudi suffered 93% burns.

Behzad Mahmoudi, a 25-year-old refugee from Bukan who lived in the Kurdistan Region for four years,  set himself on fire on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 , in protest of his disenfranchisement and lack of suppor from the UN.

Earlier, one of his friends  told Hengaw that this asylum seeker had set himself on fire due to his poor living conditions and inability to provide for himself.

It is worth mentioning that this political activist was a member of the Khabat Organization of Iranian Kurdistan
