Hengaw: A Kurdish prisoner detained in Urmia Central Prison for drug-related crimes has been tortured to death by Iranian security officials at the prison.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, on the evening of Monday, May 17, 2021 , a Kurdish prisoner identified as "Amir Rezaei" from Urmia lost his life as a result of torture by Iranian security officials in Urmia Central Prison. His body has been transferred to the prison’s medical Center.

Amir Rezaei was arrested 10 years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Iranin judiciary. He was detained in Ward 14 of Urmia Central Prison.

According to an informed source, Amir Rezaei was transferred to prison quarantine on Sunday after a clash in ward 14, where he was beaten and tortured by four officers with batons.
