Kurdish soldiers injured from Iran-Iraq war landmine

Hengaw – Two Iranian-Kurdish soldiers were wounded on November 10th as a land mine, left over from Iraq-Iran war in 1980s, was exploded in the border area of Eilam province, said Hengaw correspondent.   Rasoul Assadi, 24 and Danial Bayranwand, 21 were spending their military service as soldier in Nahr Anbar military base on Friday as an old land mine was accidentally exploded and caused their injuries.   According to Islamic constitution in Iran, all men older than 18 years must spend at east two years of military service.   Bayranwand left hospital hours later while Asadi has been sent to Eilam hospital for further treatment as he had serious injuries, added Hengaw correspondent.   According to a report by Faith Karimov published on Trend News Agency on October 2017, 1700 hectares of Eilam province were mined during the eight-years of Iran-Iraq war.   Thousands more were minded in each of Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Western Azarbaijan, and Kurdistan province with an estimate of 16 million mines still remaining undetonated in these areas, said the report.
