2021: At least 10 Kurdish prisoners tortured to death + list of names

Hengaw: At least 17 Kurdish prisoners died in prisons in Iranian Kurdistan in 2021, including 10 prisoners under torture.

Citing the statistics recorded by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 17 Kurdish prisoners have died while being held in prisons in Iranian Kurdistan. 10 of the 17 detainees were tortured to death by Iranian prison officials. Four prisoners were political prisoners. The families of the prisoners who were tortured to death report that the bodies of their loved ones were not handed over to them.

The prisoners were

4 political prisoners

3 prisoners in connection with murder/manslaughter

2 prisoners in connection with drug offenses

6 prisoners in connection with general offenses

1 prisoner for unpaid debts

1 unknown case

Kermanshah Province: 3 cases

Sanandaj Province: 2 cases

Ilam province: 2 cases

Reasons for the deaths

Death by torture: 10 cases

Death from inadequate medical care: 4 cases

Death resulting from a fight: 1 case

Unknown: 1 case
