Execution of Athlete Battling Bipolar Disorder in Nahavand

The death sentence of Yaghoub Alimoradi, was carried out in the central prison of Nahavand. Alimoradi, who suffered from bipolar disorder, faced the death penalty on charges related to homicide.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, January 15, the execution of Yaghoub Alimoradi a 35-year-old athlete from Nahavand, Hamedan province, was implemented in the central prison of Nahavand.

According to a reliable source, the weightlifting athlete had been detained three years ago, accused of two cases of homicide involving a firearm. Subsequently, he received a death sentence from the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The same source disclosed that Alimoradi was experiencing acute bipolar symptoms at the time of the crimes. In preparation for the execution, he was transferred to solitary confinement two days before the implementation of the verdict.

There has not been any news coverage on the execution in  government-affiliated media outlets, particularly those associated with the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
