Khalid Zamani is a Kurdish political prisoner who has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He has already served 5,607 days, which accounts for more than half of his sentence, yet he is still deprived of the right to leave.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Khalid Zamani, a Kurdish political prisoner and father of three daughters and one son hailing from Khoy City, has been detained in Yazd Central Prison for over 15 years and 4 months without the opportunity to leave.

Five years ago, in a report on Khalid Zamani's situation, Hengaw noted that despite the approval of Yazd prison and the intelligence department in Khoy, a legal representative in the Execution of Sentences department of Khoy Court mentioned that "due to Khalid Zamani being a Kurd and a Sunni, he is not permitted to exercise his right to leave."

Khalid Zamani was arrested on June 30, 2008, by the forces of the intelligence department and was initially sentenced to have his left hand and right leg amputated for the charge of "(Muhareba) Waging war against God through membership in the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK)" by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, presided over by Judge Nowrozi.

Following Khalid Zamani's protest, this sentence was appealed to the Supreme Court, and after its annulment, it was commuted to a 30-year prison sentence with exile to Yazd Central Prison, as ordered by the Urmia Court of Appeals.

Khalid Zamani endured severe physical and mental torture during his detention in the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center. On December 21, 2009, he was transferred from Khoy Central Prison to Yazd Central Prison, and his leave has been consistently opposed since.

The financial situation of Khalid's family has become extremely dire since his arrest, as he was the breadwinner, and their only means of livelihood is through carpet weaving.
