Kurdish political prisoner Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh transferred to solitary confinement for execution
Hengaw: Sunday, December 15, 2024
Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, a Kurdish political prisoner from Sanandaj, previously sentenced to death by the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court on charges of "Waging War against God" through "membership in anti-revolutionary groups," has been transferred to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj for the implementation of his death sentence. His family has been summoned for a final visit.
According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, a 34-year-old political prisoner from Sanandaj, was moved to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison in Alborz Province for his scheduled execution. He was only 19 years old at the time of his arrest and has been denied leave for the past 15 years.
A source close to the Mohammadi family confirmed the news to Hengaw, stating: "Several family members traveled to Karaj today for a final visit with Saman."
Hengaw has learned that 15 years ago, Saman Mohammadi was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and later sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati, on charges of "Waging War against God" and "membership in anti-revolutionary terrorist groups linked to foreign intelligence services."
It is worth noting that during his detention and court proceedings, Saman Mohammadi was denied the right to choose his own lawyer.
One of his close associates told Hengaw: "Saman has been transferred to solitary confinement for execution, despite his death sentence being overturned last year and replaced with 15 years in prison. He was scheduled to be released this year during the Yalda Night celebrations."
According to an informed source, during his detention, Saman Mohammadi was subjected to severe torture, which forced him to make false confessions against himself. He was coerced into claiming responsibility for the killing of Khalifeh Ebrahim Farhadi in Qorveh, as well as the murder of a military officer in Sanandaj during the 2009 protests known as the 'Green Movement.'
State-affiliated media outlets previously reported the issuance of death sentences for several members of a group accused of killing two police officers, Mullah Borhan (the interim Friday prayer leader of Sanandaj), Mohammad Sheikh-ol-Islam (the representative of Sanandaj in the Assembly of Experts and Friday prayer leader of Qoba Mosque), and abducting and murdering Khalifeh Ebrahim Farhadi in Qorveh.
