Three prisoners executed on the First Day of 2025

On the first day of 2025, the death sentences of at least three prisoners, including an Afghan national, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. These individuals had been convicted of premeditated murder in separate cases.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, citing the government-affiliated Rokna website, the executions took place at dawn on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

One of the executed prisoners was identified as Arshia, approximately 22 years old, who had been arrested in December 2022 for the murder of his stepfather and sentenced to death. The second individual, Amin, an Afghan national, had been arrested in July 2022 for the murder of a person and subsequently sentenced to death.

The identity of the third prisoner was not disclosed in the report. However, it was noted that he had been arrested in October 2022 for the murder of his brother-in-law during an inheritance dispute.

Hengaw had previously reported the transfer of at least 10 prisoners to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in preparation for execution. The number of executed prisoners may increase in the coming days.
