Dina Ghalibaf Sentenced to 2 Years Imprisonment and Fine

Dina Ghalibaf, a journalist and student at "Shahid Beheshti" University in Tehran who was arrested this past April, has been sentenced by the Iranian Judiciary to 2 years of imprisonment and a fine of 15 million tomans. Her prison sentence has been suspended for 5 years.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the court of appeals suspended Dina Ghalibaf's initial sentence of 2 years imprisonment and a 15 million toman fine for 5 years.
According to the issued verdict, during the 5-year suspension of her sentence, Dina Ghalibaf must refrain from contacting and associating with individuals active in the social and political scene.
Dina Ghalibaf was tried on charges of "spreading lies," "propaganda against the regime," and "disobeying police orders." This sentence pertains to the charge of "spreading lies," and she has been acquitted of the other charges.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Iranian security forces raided Dina Ghalibaf's home, a journalist and student at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, and arrested her. The day before her arrest, she had reported on her X account that she had been arrested at a metro station and sexually assaulted.
