The death sentence of a Kurdish prisoner, identified as Vahid Binami from Piranshahr, who was previously sentenced to death for drug-related charges, was carried out in Naghadeh Central Prison. At approximately 2 a.m., prison authorities sent the prisoner’s family home, telling them the death sentence had not been carried out. However, at 8 a.m., they contacted the family, instructing them to come collect the body.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the early hours of Thursday, October 31, 2024, the death sentence of 49-year-old Vahid Binami from Piranshahr was carried out in Naghadeh Central Prison.
Hengaw has learned that Vahid Binami was arrested eight years ago for possession of 260 grams of methamphetamine and was subsequently sentenced to death by the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
A relative of the Binami family reported that prison officials told the family, who were waiting outside the prison at 2 a.m., that “the execution was a scare tactic, meant to intimidate and reform, and was not carried out,” advising them to return home. However, at 8 a.m., the family received a call requesting them to come to the prison to collect their son’s body.
To date, the news of the execution of this prisoner has not been reported by the Iranian media, particularly those affiliated with the authorities.
