Death Sentences of Seven Prisoners Carried Our in Karaj

At least seven prisoners, including an Afghan national, who had previously been sentenced to death on charges such as drugs and efsad fel-arz (spreading corruption on Earth) through the production and distribution of poisonous alcoholic beverages, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison and Karaj Central Prison.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the death sentences of two prisoners named Mohammad Koushki, 25, from Kuhdasht, and Babakhan Jafari, 65, from Nourabad in Lorestan province, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Simultaneously, the death sentence of an Afghan national, whose identity is under investigation, was also carried out.

These three prisoners had previously been arrested in separate cases for drug-related charges and sentenced to death. On Monday, Hengaw reported that they had been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their execution.

Additionally, at the same time, the death sentences of four other prisoners, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death by the judiciary on charges of efsad fel-arz ( spreading corruption on earth) through “the production and distribution of poisonous alcoholic beverages in Karaj,” were carried out in Karaj Central Prison, also known as the Karaj Central Correctional Facility.

The official news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s judiciary, Mizan, without mentioning the identities of these prisoners, reported that these individuals caused the deaths of 17 people and the poisoning of 191 others by distributing poisonous alcoholic beverages.

The report also mentioned that seven other individuals involved in this case were each sentenced to 29 years in prison.
