Afghan prisoner secretly executed in Bandar Abbas Prison

The death sentence of Sardar Mohammad, an Afghan prisoner, was carried out secretly in Bandar Abbas Central Prison without being granted the right to a final family meeting. He had been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, in the early hours of Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Sardar Mohammad, a 43-year-old father and resident of Khak-e-Sefid in Farah Province, Afghanistan, was executed in Bandar Abbas Central Prison.
Sardar Mohammad was arrested approximately 18 months ago in Bandar Abbas on drug-related charges. Following his arrest, he was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Bandar Abbas. The execution was carried out in secrecy, and no prior notice was given to his family.
Based on data recorded by Hengaw, at least 73 Afghan prisoners were executed in Iranian prisons in 2024.
As of the time of this report, neither state media nor judiciary-affiliated outlets in Iran have announced the news of Sardar Mohammad’s execution.
