Hengaw: Sunday, April 13, 2025

Shohreh Ghamar, a Kurdish film actress and Tehran resident, has been sentenced to 56 months (4 years and 8 months) in prison by the Islamic Republic of Iran's judiciary. Ghamar had previously been sentenced to 15 months for supporting the “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, Shohreh Ghamar, 32, originally from Bijar and living in Tehran, was sentenced by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court to three years and six months for “supporting Israel," and fourteen months for “spreading false information in support of the Women, Life, Freedom movement and inciting public opinion”

Her lawyer, Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani, confirmed that an appeal against the verdict has been filed.

Shohreh Ghamar was first arrested on Saturday, August 5, 2023 by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence for allegedly “posting offensive content on social media.” She was released temporarily on Monday, September 11, 2023, after 42 days in detention at Ward 5 of Evin Prison, upon posting bail.

It’s worth noting that Ghamar’s previous 15-month sentence was also tied to her public support for the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom) movement.
