Hengaw: Wednesday, April 16, 2025

Over the past week, the death sentences of at least nine prisoners—including three Kurdish prisoners and one Afghan national—have been carried out in Karaj Central Prison and Ghezel Hesar Prison. Hengaw had previously reported the execution of three of them.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the death sentences of at least three prisoners—Ali Shahi from Delfan, Sajad Yarmohammadi, and Majid Rouhi—were carried out in Karaj Central Prison (also known as Karaj Penitentiary).

These three prisoners had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses.

Separately, on Wednesday, April 9, the death sentences of two Kurdish prisoners from Kermanshah—27-year-old Sajad Akbari and 43-year-old Meysam Veysi—along with an Afghan national named Shir-Mohammad Nazarollah, who had all been sentenced to death on charges of premeditated murder, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. On the same day, Hengaw had reported the execution of three other prisoners, bringing the total number of executions in that prison on that day to six.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced in the state-run media, particularly outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
