Political prisoner Pedram Madani executed in Ghezalhesar Prison on Charges of “Espionage for Israel”

Hengaw – Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Pedram Madani, a political prisoner sentenced to death on charges of “espionage for Israel,” has been executed in Ghezalhesar Prison in Karaj following a non-transparent judicial process.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Madani, a 41-year-old resident of Tehran and father of one, had been transferred earlier this week from Evin Prison to Ghezalhesar in preparation for the execution.
Mizan News Agency, the official media outlet of Iran’s judiciary, confirmed the execution and reported that Madani was arrested in 2020 on charges of espionage for Israel, as well as “illicit financial gain through the receipt of foreign currency (euros) and cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) in Europe.”
Madani’s mother previously appeared in a video statement asserting that her son’s case was marred by legal inconsistencies. She noted that the Supreme Court had overturned his death sentence three times, but it was later reinstated by different judicial branches.
It is also notable that Olivier Vandecasteele, a Belgian national who spent over two and a half years in Iranian prisons, released a video message in Persian urging authorities to halt Madani’s execution. Vandecasteele stated that he had shared a cell with Madani in Evin Prison and was personally familiar with his case.
