Iran executes political prisoner Bahman Choubi Asl on espionage charges

Hengaw – Monday, September 29, 2025
The death sentence of political prisoner Bahman Choubi Asl, convicted on charges of “corruption on earth through intelligence collaboration with Israel,” was carried out in Iran.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Choubi Asl was executed at dawn on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The judiciary’s official outlet, Mizan News Agency, confirmed the execution, stating it followed the Supreme Court’s approval of the ruling. However, no prior details had been disclosed about his arrest, trial, or sentencing before today’s announcement.
Mizan described Choubi Asl as a database specialist who had worked on “sensitive and infrastructural projects,” alleging that he gained “extensive access to governmental and state databases” and provided them to Israel’s Mossad. The report further claimed he was arrested in a Gulf country, transferred to Iran, and later sentenced to death.
State-affiliated outlets, without providing evidence, alleged that he had “met repeatedly with Mossad officers abroad, received technical training, specialized equipment, and financial rewards, and handed over information on Iran’s data centers.” They claimed his “ongoing communications with Israel’s intelligence service” served as proof of the charges.
The execution of Bahman Choubi Asl underscores the lack of transparency in espionage-related cases in Iran, where authorities frequently conceal details of arrests, trials, and sentencing until after executions are carried out.
