Hengaw – Saturday, September 6, 2025
Iranian authorities secretly executed two Sunni prisoners, Eskandar Bazmandegan and Mohammad Kashifi, who had been accused of involvement in the Shah Cheragh attack in Shiraz, on the second anniversary of the incident. The executions were carried out in Shiraz Central Prison (Adelabad).
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the death sentences of Bazmandegan, 37, from Bandar Khamir in Hormozgan Province, and Kashifi, 40, from Khvor in Larestan, Fars Province, were implemented at dawn on Wednesday, August 13, 2024.
Both men had been arrested two years earlier on charges related to the Shah Cheragh attack and were subsequently sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
During the second attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine on August 13, 2023, two people were killed and seven others injured in a shooting.
Bazmandegan and Kashifi were executed without being granted a final family visit, and the authorities did not disclose the location of their graves to their relatives.
State media, particularly outlets affiliated with the judiciary, had not announced the executions.
