Kurdish Prisoner Hooman Garavand executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

The death sentence of Hooman Garavand, a 46-year-old Kurdish prisoner from Kuhdasht, Lorestan Province, was carried out today in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj. He had been convicted on drug-related charges.  

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Garavand was executed at dawn on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.  

He had been arrested nine years ago on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.  

Iranian state media, including judiciary-affiliated outlets, have not announced his execution.
