Hengaw– Monday, November 10, 2025

The death sentence of Reza Abdali (Daghaaleh), a 35-year-old Arab political prisoner held in Ward 8 of Central Prison of Ahvaz (Sheyban), has been upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court. Abdali had earlier been sentenced to death on the charge of “waging war against God” (moharebeh).

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the verdict was officially communicated to Abdali, confirming both the death sentence and an additional 15-year prison term previously issued by the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, without any modification.

Abdali was initially sentenced by Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Adibimehr, on the charge of moharebeh through connections with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK).

During his detention, Abdali was denied access to legal counsel and family visits and was subjected to severe torture and ill-treatment during interrogations. He was also denied the right to a lawyer during his trial proceedings.

Reza Abdali was arrested in February 2025 by Iranian security forces in Ahvaz and transferred to Sheyban Prison following his interrogations.

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights emphasizes that the right to life is the most fundamental human right, without which all other rights are rendered meaningless. Hengaw calls on international human rights organizations and diplomatic actors to use every available mechanism to press the Islamic Republic of Iran to halt executions, particularly those imposed on political prisoners
