Baloch political prisoner Issa Chari sentenced to death, transferred to solitary confinement at Ghezel Hesar Prison

Baloch political prisoner Issa Chari, a 37-year-old laborer and father of two young children who was recently sentenced to death on security-related charges, has been transferred to solitary confinement at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, raising concerns that his execution may be imminent.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Chari, a Baloch prisoner from Aqqala in Golestan province, was transferred in recent days to Suite 35, the solitary confinement unit at Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Hengaw has learned that Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Mehdi Shahmirzadi, sentenced Chari to death on charges including “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK)” and “acting against national security.”

Chari was arrested by Iranian security forces in Varamin on December 7, 2025. He was held incommunicado for the past seven months and was denied all contact with his family. Judicial proceedings in his case were conducted in secret and without transparency. His family remained unaware of his whereabouts until he was transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Chari is the father of two young children and worked at a poultry farm in Varamin to support his family before his arrest.
