Asian boxing champion Mohammad Mahshari and coach Behnam Daniali detained

Mohammad Mahshari, an Asian boxing champion, and his coach Behnam Daniali, both Turk residents of Maragheh, have been detained by Iranian authorities, and no information is available regarding their condition.

Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights indicates that the two athletes were arrested in Maragheh and, after more than a week, their fate remains unknown.

Hengaw has learned that Hossein Marzpour, head of the Maragheh Boxing Board, cooperated with Iranian security institutions in the arrest of the two athletes.

Mahshari and Daniali were arrested on Sunday, January 18, 2026, by agents of the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and transferred to a detention facility in Tabriz.
