Hengaw – Wednesday, July 1, 2026

The Iranian Judiciary has sentenced Shayan Seyednazari, a 25-year-old boxer from Bojnord and a multiple-time national champion, to four years and four months in prison as part of the continuing crackdown on athletes and civil activists following the January protests.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Bojnord recently sentenced Seyednazari to a total of four years and four months in prison. His trial was held before the same branch on April 5, 2026.

The court sentenced Seyednazari to three years and eight months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to disrupt national security” and an additional eight months for “propaganda against the state.” He also faced the charge of “participating in illegal gatherings.” Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which governs the aggregation of sentences, only the longest sentence, three years and eight months in prison, is enforceable.

Iranian security forces arrested the 25-year-old athlete on January 4, 2026. After spending a period in detention and under interrogation at Bojnord Prison, authorities released him on bail of 1 billion tomans pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.

Seyednazari had previously been arrested in Bojnord during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement.
