Hengaw – Saturday, May 16, 2026
Javad Alikordi, a Kurdish man from Sabzevar and the brother of deceased lawyer Khosrow Alikordi, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to 10 years of discretionary imprisonment.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Javad Alikordi was recently tried by a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The sentence was issued while he remains detained in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.
No precise information has been made available regarding the specific charges listed in the verdict.
Javad Alikordi was arrested on the evening of December 12, 2025, after publishing a video protesting the mass arrests of mourners during the seventh-day memorial ceremony for his brother.
In the video, he challenged the Iranian government’s official narrative surrounding the suspicious death of his brother and stated that he possessed confidential documents related to the case.
Khosrow Alikordi, a prominent lawyer representing justice-seeking families, died under suspicious circumstances in his office on December 5, 2025.
While Iranian authorities claimed the cause of death was a “heart attack,” the Alikordi family rejected the explanation, citing evidence including unusual bleeding, and called for transparency regarding the circumstances of his death.
Their demands were met with severe security pressure, including the arrest of Javad Alikordi.
