Mahdi Nazer, Mahnaz Chardouli, and Atefeh Nazer sentenced to death and 20 years in prison

Mahdi Nazer, Mahnaz Chardouli, and Atefeh Nazer, three individuals arrested during the January protests last year and currently held in Tehran’s Evin Prison, have been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to two death sentences and a combined total of 20 years in prison.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mahnaz Chardouli and her fiancé, Mahdi Nazer, were sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati. In addition to the death sentence, Chardouli was also sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Under the same ruling, Atefeh Nazer, Mahdi Nazer’s sister, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The three were convicted on charges including “attacking a mosque with Molotov cocktails,” “participating in illegal gatherings,” and “assembly and collusion.”

Mahdi Nazer, Mahnaz Chardouli, and Atefeh Nazer were arrested by Iranian government forces on January 11, 2026, during the protests.

According to informed sources, all three are currently being held in Evin Prison in Tehran. Their families have been placed under pressure by security agencies not to disclose information about the sentences.

The death sentences were issued without sufficient supporting evidence and through proceedings that fell far short of international fair trial standards, raising serious concerns about the legal integrity of the case.
