Khaled Fereydouni, a political prisoner from Mahabad, was released from Urmia Central Prison on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, after 22 years of imprisonment after being pardoned. During this period, he was sent on leave only once after 21 years.

It should be noted that Khaled Fereydouni had the right to leave for the first time after 21 years of imprisonment on Sunday, January 16, 2022.

Omar Faqihpour from Bukan and Khaled Fereydoni from Mahabad were Peshmerga members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran who were ambushed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) forces in a village near Piranshahr on August 31, 2000, and were arrested.

They have been subjected to severe psychological and physical torture since their arrest in Piranshahr and Mahabad Intelligence Detention Centers and had been held in the Piranshahr, Mahabad, Rajai Shahr, Karaj, and Urmia prisons.

Finally, in the fall of the same year, The Iranian Islamic  Revolutionary Court in Mahabad sentenced them to death for being members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) on charges of Moharebeh (War Against God). The sentence was reduced to life imprisonment a few years later on April 30, 2005, by the provincial court of appeals.

Khaled Faridouni and Omar Faqihpour were sentenced to life imprisonment on December 3, 2007, and were exiled to Rajaeeshahr prison in Karaj with the opinion of security agents. After experiencing 10 years of imprisonment in inhumane conditions, these two prisoners were returned to Urmia Central Prison together with Mohammad Nazari on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Omar Faqihpour, the other accused in the case, was pardoned and released from Urmia central prison last spring after 21 years of imprisonment.
