Kaiwan Dehghan, a resident of Sardasht, lost his life under distressing circumstances while in the custody of security agents belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Merely three days after his detention in the city's prison, Kaiwan Dehghan, aged 46, became the seventh Kurdish prisoner to succumb to torture since the commencement of this year.

According to reports obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, Kaiwan Dehghan met a grim fate in the central prison of Sardasht, subjected to torture by prison security officers.

The body of Kaiwan Dehghan was released to his family on Monday, November 13, following a three-day stay in the mortuary of Sardasht Hospital and Urmia Medical Examiner. The funeral ceremony transpired in Sardasht later that evening.

According to a reliable source, Kaiwan Dehghan was apprehended by security agents on Thursday, November 9, and subsequently confined to Sardasht prison. Detailed information regarding the grounds for his arrest and the charges leveled against him remains unavailable.

It is noteworthy that Kaiwan Dehghan had a prior arrest record for drug-related offenses and had been released from Mahabad Central Prison last month after serving an extended period of imprisonment.

Per data documented by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, from the beginning of 2023 until the present date (10 months and 10 days), a distressing tally of at least 9 prisoners have lost their lives under torture within the prisons and detention centers overseen by the security institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with 7 of these individuals being Kurdish.
