Varisheh Moradi, a political activist and advocate for women's rights, currently detained in Evin Prison, has been accused of "Rebellion" by the Iranian judicial system, raising fears of a potential death sentence. Varisheh has endured 193 days of detention marked by pressure and torture.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Varisheh Moradi, was accused of "Rebellion" for her alleged affiliation with the Kurdistan Free Life Party known as "Pajak", by the investigator of branch 5 of Tehran's General and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office. The case has been forwarded to Branch 15 of the Tehran Islamic Revolution Court, presided over by Judge Salvati.
Previous reports by Hengaw have highlighted the severe torture Varisheh endured while detained in the Intelligence Department center in Sanandaj, including incidents where she vomited blood and lost consciousness.
Varisheh Moradi spent five months in solitary confinement before being transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison on December 26, 2023, following interrogation and torture at the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center.
The abduction of Varisheh Moradi occurred on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, while traveling from Marivan to Sanandaj. Security forces from the Ministry of Intelligence subjected her to severe beatings during the kidnapping and transported her to the detention center without providing medical attention.
The attribution of Rebellion charges and the threat of heavy sentences against Varisheh Moradi underscore the ongoing challenges faced by activists within Iran and raise concerns about the fairness and transparency of the judicial process.
