Samira Ahmadi, Saqqez Civil Activist Arrested on Jina Amini's Commemoration, Receives 3-Year Prison Sentence

Samira Ahmadi, a civil activist from Saqqez who was arrested on the eve of Jina Amini's Commemoration, has been sentenced to three years in prison by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report from the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ahmadi was recently convicted by the first branch of the Saqqez Revolutionary Court, led by Judge Javad Mostafaei, for "participation in protests and collusion against internal security."

The verdict takes into account Ahmadi's previous detention, and she has also been banned from leaving the country for two years as an additional punishment.

Ahmadi was arrested at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, on Shahradari Street in Saqqez by Intelligence Department forces and taken to their detention center in Sanandaj city.

After 34 days of detention, she was temporarily released on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from the women's ward of Sanandaj Central Prison upon posting bail of 900 million tomans pending further proceedings.

Hengaw previously reported that Ahmadi was coerced into confessing against herself at the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center and was denied the right to visit her family and access legal representation during her detention.
