Last month, the execution of female inmate Hajar Atabaki took place in Qazvin Central Prison. Atabaki had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the morning of Saturday, January 20th, 2024, the execution of Hajar Atabaki, a Turkish citizen from Tabriz, occurred in Qazvin Central Prison.
Hajar Atabaki, a mother of one, had been the sole guardian of her child since her separation from her husband in 2018.
Approximately two and a half years ago, she was arrested on charges related to drug offenses and subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Notably, the news of this execution has yet to be reported by Iranian state media, particularly those associated with the judiciary.
According to statistics compiled by the Hangaw Statistics Center, within the past year, execution sentences for at least 22 female inmates have been carried out in various prisons in Iran, accounting for approximately 2.7% of the total executions during that period.
