Hengaw: A Kurdish prisoner has died in the prison of Ilam in Iranian Kurdistan after being denied the essential medical care he needed.

According to the report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Kurdish prisoner Ibrahim Cawhari, 55 years old and a citizen of Ilam, died on February 11, 2022 due to lack of medical care. According to an informed source, Ibrahim Cawhari was transferred to the prison infirmary on February 11 after his health condition had deteriorated. Although his stay in the infirmary did not improve his condition, Ibrahim Cawhari was returned to his ward. When Ibrahim Cawhari's condition in his cell deteriorated drastically again, he was taken to a nearby hospital in Ilam, but died on the way.

Ibrahim Cawhari was arrested three years ago on unpaid debts and has been in prison ever since.

Citing the registered statistics of Hengaw, at least 17 Kurdish prisoners, including four political prisoners, died in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2021.
