Update : 15 prisoners injured and taken out of prison following an insurgency in Urmia Central Prison

Hengaw : At least 15 prisoners who were wounded by anti-riot especial forces and were taken out of the prison following a self-immolation of a prisoner in front of the Prison Gaurd’s Office that resulted in insurgencies in Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Urmia Central Prison.  .

 According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 15 prisoners in Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Urmia Central Prison were  severely beaten by anti-riot forces  and were injured and taken to out-of-prison medical centers for treatment.

 A well-informed source from Urmia Prison told Hengaw that all public telephones in the prison have been cut off so that the news does not leak out of the prison.
 As of preparation of this report , the identities of the 15 detainees have not been cleared and it is not clear which hospital they have been transferred to .  It is worth mentioning that several other prisoners have been treated in the prison health center.

 At around noon Wednesday, November 25, 2020, a prisoner with the identity of Hojjat Kazemnejad in Urmia Central Prison set himself on fire twice after protesting his imprisonment after serving his one-year sentence. He was then  was beaten by prison security forces and this led to the reaction of other prisoners.

 After these contentions , dozens of anti-riot police entered the wards where more than 1000 prisoners were being held and began beating them.
