93 Arrested in August 2024 by Security Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran

According to data compiled by the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least 93 individuals were arrested by security forces across Iran during the month of August 2024. The full identities of these individuals have been verified. The highest number of arrests was among Kurds, with 40 cases recorded.

Breakdown of Arrests:

•⁠  ⁠Gender and Age:
  - At least 10 female activists were arrested, including 6 Kurdish women.
  - At least 5 children under the age of 18 were also detained, including 3 Baloch children and 2 Kurdish children.

•⁠  ⁠Nationality Distribution:
  - Kurds:40 individuals (43% of total arrests)
  - Balochs: 23 individuals (25% of total arrests)
  - Turks: 8 individuals (8.5% of total arrests)
  - Others: Arrests also included individuals from various other nationality backgrounds.

Geographical Distribution of Arrests:

•⁠  ⁠Sistan and Baluchistan Province: 20 cases
-  West Azarbaijan (Urmia) Province: 18 cases (all Kurds)
•⁠  ⁠Kermanshah Province: 14 cases
-  Khuzestan Province: 9 cases (4 Lors, 5 Arabs)
-  Kurdistan (Sanandaj) Province: 7 cases
•⁠  ⁠Tehran Province: 6 cases (5 Persians and 1 Lor)
•⁠  ⁠Kerman Province: 5 cases (3 Balochs and 2 Persians)
•⁠  ⁠East Azerbaijan Province: 5 cases
•⁠  ⁠Markezi Province: 2 cases (1 Turk and 1 Persian)
•⁠  ⁠Ardabil Province: 2 cases
•⁠  ⁠Razavi Khorasan Province: 1 case (1 Kurd)
•⁠  ⁠Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan, Fars, and Isfahan Provinces: 1 case each

 

Arrests of Religious Minorities:

The arrests of followers of religious minorities continued in August, with at least 5 Sunni Kurdish and Baloch activists and 2 Baha'i activists detained:

  1. Mateen Fahandej Saadi from Kerman
  2. Masbah Dolat from Kerman

•⁠  ⁠Sunni Activists:
  1. Mohammad Fariq Shariat Panah from Bukan
  2. Zakaria Malekreisi from Zahedan
  3. Mohammad Amin Moradzehi from Khash
  4. Tariq Moradzehi from Khash
  5. Ali Bahrami from Marivan

Arrest of 10 women activists and 5 children in August 2024

During the past month, at least 10 female activists, including 6 Kurdish women, have been arrested by security institutions across Iran, representing 11% of the total number of detainees this month. Their names are as follows:

2.⁠ ⁠Manijeh Khoshnoud and Paharan Nabizadeh from Bukan
3.⁠ ⁠Soraya Qaitran from Piranshahr
4.⁠ ⁠Mahshid Lotfi from Ahvaz
5.⁠ ⁠Hamraz Sadeghi and Zahra Tamdan from Tehran
6.⁠ ⁠Frmesk Babaei from Paveh
7.⁠ ⁠Maria Khani from Gilan-e Gharb
8.⁠ ⁠Galavezh Mohammadi Arshad from Mahabad

The 5 children detained included:

1.⁠ ⁠Mardin Rasulzadeh, 13 years old, from Mahabad
2.⁠ ⁠Arya Yousefi, 18 years old, from Bukan
3.⁠ ⁠Tariq Moradzehi, 17 years old, from Khash
4.⁠ ⁠Faramarz Brahui, 15 years old, from Zahedan
5.⁠ ⁠Hossam Darzadeh Naz, 16 years old, from Rask

Arrest of Teachers and Students:

In August, security forces continued to target educators, with at least one teacher, Mukhtar Asadi from Sanandaj, being arrested. Additionally, Maryam Darisi, a student from Kazerun, was also detained.

Arrest of Writers and Artists:

At least two singers, Taha Rasoulian from Piranshahr and Behrad Alikanari from Ahvaz, were arrested by security forces in August.
