115 arrested in November 2024 by security forces of Islamic Republic of Iran

According to data compiled by the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Right, at least 115 individuals, whose identities have been verified, were arrested across Iran by security forces during November 2024. Kurds accounted for the highest number of arrests, with 45 cases, comprising 39% of the total.

Among those arrested were 16 women, 3 children, 45 Kurds, 26 Balochs, 10 Turks, 4 Baha’i activists, and 2 Christian converts. The majority of arrests were documented in Sistan-Baluchestan Province.

Geographical distribution of arrests: 

The highest number of arrests occurred in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, with 26 cases. This was followed by 23 arrests in Kurdistan (Sanandaj) Province and 18 arrests in West Azerbaijan (Urmia) Province.
    •    Sistan-Baluchestan Province: 26 cases
    •    Kurdistan Province (Sanandaj): 23 cases
    •    West Azerbaijan Province (Urmia): 18 cases (all Kurdis)
    •    Tehran Province: 16 cases (15 Persians, 1 Turks)
    •    Khorasan Razavi Province: 9 cases (8 Persians, 1 Kurd)
    •    Fars and East Azerbaijan Provinces: 4 cases each
    •    Kermanshah Province: 3 cases
    •    Gilan Province: 3 cases (1 Gilak, 1 Talysh, 1 Turk)
    •    Khuzestan Province: 3 cases (Arabs)
    •    Ardabil Province: 2 cases
    •    Alborz Province: 1 case (1 Turk)
    •    Bushehr and Mazandaran Provinces: 1 case each


At least 62% of those arrested were Kurds and Baloch. Specifically, 45 Kurds (39% of all arrests) and 26 Balochs (23%) were arrested. Additionally, 10 Turks and 4 Arabs were arrested.

Arrests of religious minorities: 

The arrests of individuals from religious and faith-based minorities continued in November 2024. The detainees include 6 followers of the Yamani faith, 4 Baha’i activists, 3 Sunni Muslims, 2 Christian converts, and 1 Yarsani adherent. The identities are as follows:

Baha’i Activists:

    3.    Elham Haghighatjou (Shiraz)
    4.    Rozita Eslami (Shiraz)

Yamani Faith Followers:

    1.    Hassan Norouzi (Torbat- e Heydariyeh)
    2.    Rasoul Sadat (Torbat- e Heydariyeh)
    3.    Esmail Esmailzadeh (Torbat- e Heydariyeh)
    4.    Hossein Hendabadi (Torbat- e Heydariyeh)
    5.    Saeed Zakeri (Torbat- e Heydariyeh)
    6.    Mojtaba Esmailzadeh (Torbat- e Heydariyeh)

Sunni Activists:

    1.    Hafez Mir Balochzehi (Mirjaveh)
    2.    Saeed Rakhshani (Mirjaveh)
    3.    Safiollah Sanjarani (Nehbandan)

Christian Converts:

    1.    Ghazal Marzban Jorshari (Rasht)
    2.    Javad Amini (Nowshahr)

Yarsani Adherents:

    1.    Yazdan Qanbari (Kermanshah)

Arrest of 16 women activists and 3 children in November 2024: 

At least 16 women were arrested in November 2024, accounting for 14% of all arrests. The names of the arrested women are as follows:

    3.    Zahra Rezaei (Tehran)
    4.    Mahvash Seyedali Tadoei (Tehran)
    5.    Shima Azam Farzan (Tehran)

    7.    Fariba Moradian (Sanandaj)
    8.    Sairan Khosravi (Sanandaj)
    9.    Elham Haghighatjou (Shiraz)
    10.    Rozita Eslami (Shiraz)
    11.    Maryam Rashidi (Maku)
    12.    Rahimeh Dehmardeh (Taftan)
    13.    Elham Qaderi (Piranshahr)

Additionally, 3 children under the age of 18 were arrested:
    1.    Sina Asadi Hakim, 15 (Roabad)
    2.    Aref Qolijani, 18 (Taftan)
    3.    Negar Dabbaghi, 17 (Tabriz)

Arrest of teachers and students:

At least 1 student and 6 teachers were arrested in November 2024. The identities are as follows:

Teachers:

    1.    Mohammad Habibi
    2.    Mohammad Hasan-Poureh
    3.    Rezgar Roshani
    4.    Farshad Saraei
    5.    Azad Khadem
    6.    Saro Azizi

Student:

    1.    Ahoo Daryaei

Arrests of Media Activists

At least two journalists were arrested in November:
    1.    Saeed Hosseini-Nejad (Rezvanshahr)
    2.    Zhina Modares-Gorji (Sanandaj)

Arrests of writers and artists:

At least one writer, Farshad Saraei (Tehran), was arrested by security forces in November.
