Hengaw: A 17 -year-old Kurdish prisoner detained for premeditated murder has gone on a hunger strike by sewing his lips to protest the uncertainty of his case.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, a prisoner from the village of Sardush in Marivan district of Kurdistan Province identified as "Arman Farahmand", who has recently turned 17, has been in the Sanandaj Correctional Center since Saturday, June 19, 2021. has gone on a hunger strike by sewing his lips.

According to a source close to Arman Farahmand's family, he went on a hunger strike and sewed his lips together as a sign of protest against the indecision and lack of processing of his case by the Second Branch of  Investigation office in Marivan.

Arman Farahmand along with 8 other citizens were arrested on Monday, August 31,2020, during a street group fight in Marivan that resulted in the death of a citizen identified as "Pouya Chare Talab".

It is worth mentioning that Arman Farahmand was exactly 16 years and 5 months old at the time of his arrest. This teenager going on a hunger strike and also the uncertainty of his case has caused severe mental pain to Arman and his family.

Hengaw has always expressed its concern about the lack of observance over the protective laws for juveniles in cases of psychological and physical torture, especially in the cities of Iranian Kurdistan.
