Three Sunni Kurdish religious activists in Sanandaj (Sine), Shahram Abadian, Afshin Ahmadi, and Jamshid Ahmadi, were detained by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran one year and eight months ago and have since been subjected to enforced disappearance.

According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Shahram Abadian and his two brothers-in-law, Afshin and Jamshid Ahmadi, all married with children from Sanandaj, have been detained by undercover government forces for the past 19 months. The government has not released any information regarding their whereabouts or well-being.

According to a source close to the families of these detainees, during nearly one year and eight months of detention, they have not had any contact with their families, not even a phone call.

The source added that despite continuous efforts by the families of Shahram Abadian, Afshin, and Jamshid Ahmadi to approach the judicial and security authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, no results have been achieved, and all their efforts have been unresolved.

Moreover, anyone inquiring about the situation of these detainees has been threatened by intelligence officials in Sanandaj for publishing the incident and the direct involvement of the intelligence agency in their disappearance.

It is important to note that Shahram Abadian has been detained at least three times in the past year by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran prior to his current arrest.

Hengaw has learned that Shahram Abadian's vehicle was confiscated when he visited the intelligence office to inquire about the status of his brother-in-law. Recently, after several months, the car was found on a street in Islamabad Gharb (Shabad), Kermanshah Province, intact and without any scratches or damages.

Afshin and Jamshid Ahmadi were both working as mobile vendors (selling fruits), and their brother-in-law, Shahram Abadian, was also a mobile vendor earning a living by vending on the streets.

Additionally, intelligence personnel in Sanandaj have foreclosed the clothing store of Shahram Abadian’s wife, putting this family in a very difficult economic situation.

Afshin and Jamshid Ahmadi were arrested in public at the “Arshad Mosque” in Sanandaj by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Thursday, August 18th, 2022, while brutally assaulted and severely beaten during the arrest and taken to an undisclosed location.

A day later, their brother-in-law, Shahram Abadian, was also detained, and his car was confiscated after he visited the Intelligence Agency to inquire about the situation of his brothers-in-law.
