The Number of Executions in Urmia Prison Raised to Two

At the same time as the execution of Kamran Sheikheh, Hasan Yousefi Azar, an Azerbaijani-Turkish prisoner from Naghadeh in West Azerbaijan Province (Urmia), was also executed in Urmia Central Prison. He had been previously arrested and sentenced to death for the intentional murder of a citizen.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, July 25, 2024, the death sentence of Hasan Yousefi Azar, from Naghadeh was carried out in Urmia Central Prison.

On Saturday, July 28, 2021, Hasan Yousefi Azar fatally attacked 35-year-old Fardin Ibrahimi from Oshnavieh in Naghadeh with a machete. Ibrahimi was attempting to mediate a physical altercation between the accused his companion and two other individuals when he was killed.

The murder of Fardin Ebrahimi sparked a large-scale protest by Kurdish citizens in Naghadeh, which escalated into violence following the intervention of Iranian security forces. This resulted in the destruction of numerous shops owned by Kurdish citizens by these forces. These protests led to the arrest of several individuals and the summoning of more than 50 Kurdish citizens by Iranian security forces.

To date, the  news of Hasan Yousefi-Azer's execution has not been announced in the Iranian state media, especially the media affiliated with the judiciary

It should be mentioned that, at the same time, the death sentence of Kamran Sheikheh, a Kurdish religious prisoner from Mahabad, was executed in Urmia Central Prison.
