The Death Sentence of an Afghan Prisoner Secretly Carried Out in Qaen Prison

At least one Afghan prisoner, identified as Mutiullah Barakzai, was executed in Qaen Central Prison in South Khorasan Province. He had previously been sentenced to death for drug-related charges.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the morning of Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the death sentence of Matiullah Barakzai, a 40-year-old Afghan citizen residing in Zahedan, was carried out in Qaen Central Prison without his knowledge or a final meeting with his family.

According to informed sources, this citizen was arrested five years ago for drug-related charges at the Qaen checkpoint and was sentenced to death by the Iranian Judiciary.

To date, the news of the execution of this prisoner has not been announced in the Iranian state media, especially the media affiliated with the judiciary.
