Dehgolan: Azad Abbasi, Kurdish language instructor, arrested to serve prison term

Azad Abbasi, a civil activist, volunteer Kurdish language instructor, and director of the Nojin NGO, has been arrested to serve his two-year prison sentence and transferred to the Qorveh Central Prison. He was also previously arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement and sentenced to six years and four months in prison.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, October 31, 2024, Azad Abbasi, a civil activist from Dehgolan, was detained after being summoned by the Execution of Sentences Department in Qorveh. He was then transferred to the city’s central prison to commence his two-year sentence.
In February 2024, the Criminal Court Branch 102 in Dehgolan sentenced Azad Abbasi to one year in prison for “propaganda against the regime” and an additional two years for “insulting the the supreme leader.” His maximum sentence will now be enforced.
Over the years, Azad Abbasi has been repeatedly arrested by security forces. His most recent arrest was on September 18, 2023, marking the anniversary of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.
It is worth noting that during this movement, Azad Abbasi and his brother Sirus Abbasi were arrested. After three months, he was temporarily released on bail from Sanandaj Central Prison. Ultimately, he was sentenced by the Second Criminal Court in Dehgolan to six years and four months in prison.
