A Kurdish man from Piranshahr, Mohammad Mohammadi, also known as Sheikhali, has been detained to serve a two-year prison sentence. He was also among detainees during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Mohammadi—originally from the village of Shinabad near Piranshahr—was arrested and transferred to Naghadeh Central Prison to begin serving his sentence.

Mohammadi had previously been released on bail on March 20, 2023, after spending nearly four months in detention and interrogation centers. A Bail at 2 billion tomans had been set for his previous release.

He was initially arrested on October 30, 2022, during the nationwide protests, without an arrest warrant, by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. Mohammadi was held at a detention facility in Urmia before being transferred to Naghadeh Prison two months later.

Following his release on bail, the Piranshahr Revolutionary Court sentenced him to two years in prison on charges of “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.” The sentence was later upheld in full by the Court of Appeals.
