Iran: Prisoner Secretly Executed in Urmia Central Prison
Hengaw: Friday, October 11, 2024
The death sentence of Asad Farhang, a Kurdish prisoner from Saqqez, was carried out secretly in Urmia Central Prison. His execution coincided with that of another Kurdish prisoner, Burhan Ansari, whose case details were previously reported by Hengaw.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, October 10, 2024, Asad Farhang was executed in Urmia Central Prison. Despite court documents indicating that his case was still under review, with a court session scheduled for October 26, 2024, the execution was conducted in secret.
A source revealed that the execution took place without notifying Farhang’s family, depriving them of the opportunity for a final visit.
Asad Farhang had been arrested nine years ago on charges of “premeditated murder” and was eventually sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Earlier, Hengaw had reported the execution of another Kurdish prisoner, Burhan Ansari from Urmia, who was also convicted of “premeditated murder” and executed at dawn on the same day.
As of the time of this report, the executions of these two Kurdish prisoners have not been officially announced in state media or outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
