Death sentence of a prisoner carried out in Central Prison of Qorveh

The death sentence of Mehdi Cheraghi, a Kurdish prisoner from Qorveh, Kurdistan (Snanadaj) province, was carried out at Qorveh Central Prison. He had previously been sentenced to death for premeditated murder by the judiciary of Islamic Republic of Iran

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the death sentence of 34-year-old Mehdi Cheraghi, who was transferred to solitary confinement at Qorveh Central Prison a day before, was carried out.

A source close to the Cheraghi family stated that Mehdi Cheraghi was arrested seven years ago on charges of the premeditated murder of a 64-year-old man named Mahmoud Rezaei. He was later sentenced to death by the judiciary. For the past seven years, Cheraghi had been imprisoned at Sanandaj Central Prison and was transferred to Qorveh Central Prison two weeks ago.

It is noteworthy that on July 22, 2024, Mehdi Cheraghi was also transferred to solitary confinement at Sanandaj Central Prison for the execution of his sentence, but after receiving a three-month reprieve, he was returned to the general ward.

To date, the news of the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by state media, particularly those affiliated with the judiciary.
