Execution Toll in Karaj’s Ghezel Hesar Prison Rises to 7, Including Woman and Two Afghan Nationals

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at least seven prisoners were executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj. Among those executed were a woman convicted of premeditated murder and two Afghan nationals convicted of rape, in addition to two prisoners convicted with drug-related crimes were executed.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution of Behnam Hossein Dasjardi, a married man and father of one, took place at dawn on Wednesday. He had been sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran for premeditated murder.

Simultaneously, Hamshahri newspaper reported the execution of another woman and a man, both convicted of premeditated murder. Although the report did not disclose their identities, it stated that the woman had been convicted of murdering her husband eight years ago, while the man had been sentenced to death two years ago for murdering a friend.

In addition, two Afghan nationals, whose identities are still under investigation, were also executed for rape. These men, along with five others, were arrested five years ago and sentenced to death for the rape of a woman in Tehran.

Hengaw had previously reported the executions of Fazlollah Pournasiri from Kuhdasht and Hamzeh Shahbazi from Tehran, both convicted of drug-related offenses. Along with Behnam Hossein Dasjardi, they were transferred to solitary confinement on Monday and had their final visits with their families.

While the executions of five of the seven prisoners have been officially reported in state media, the executions of the two individuals convicted of drug-related crimes have not been announced.
