Death sentence of prisoner carried out in Urmia Prison

Death sentence of a Kurdish prisoner from Rabat, a district of Sardasht, identified as Amanj Azizi, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison. Azizi had previously been sentenced to death for drug-related charges.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, early on Friday, November 15, 2024, the death sentence of Amanj Azizi, a resident of the village of Aghlan in Rabat, Sardasht County, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison.
Alongside Amanj Azizi, at least two other prisoners were reportedly transferred to solitary confinement in Urmia Central Prison in preparation for execution, but no precise information has been available regarding their fate.
Amanj Azizi, originally from the village of Aghlan in Rabat, was arrested approximately eight years ago on drug-related charges and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
To date, the news of the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by state media, particularly those affiliated with the judiciary.
