Baloch man killed by direct fire from government forces in Khash

A Baloch man named Aref Kurd, a resident of Khash in Sistan-Baluchestan Province lost his life after being shot directly by government forces on the Joujak-Khash road.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at 11:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, Aref Kurd, 35 years old and a resident of the village of “Garak” near Sangar, Khash, was killed by gunfire from government forces on the Joujak-Khash route.

Sources report that Aref Kurd’s Peugeot 405 vehicle was riddled with bullets by government forces without prior warning while it was being towed by another car.

Hengaw has learnt that Aref Kurd, who was married and the father of three children, was struck by multiple bullets and succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to medical facilities. His body has not yet been handed over to his family as of the time of reporting.

Based on statistics recorded by Hengaw’s Center for Statistics and Documentation, at least six Baloch individuals have been killed by direct gunfire from government forces in the first 12 days of 2025 in the cities of Sahlabad, Rudbar-e-Jonub, Mirjaveh, Golshan, and Khash in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, South Khorasan, and Kerman.
