Pouria Javaheri, a 31-year-old political detainee from Kamyaran, has entered the sixth day of his hunger strike in Sanandaj Central Prison to protest his prolonged detention without resolution. Arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, Javaheri has been subjected to torture and forced confessions while in custody.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Pouria Javaheri began his hunger strike on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, to protest over two years of detention without a verdict. His lawyer, Mostafa Ahmadian, confirmed the strike, stating:
“My client, Pouria Javaheri, has been on hunger strike in Sanandaj Central Prison to protest his prolonged detention without trial.”

Javaheri has been in detention since December 2022. Initially held in the Shahramfar Intelligence Detention Center in Sanandaj, he was transferred to Kamyaran Central Prison in February 2023 and later moved to Sanandaj Central Prison in September 2024.

Pouria Javaheri has been accused of participating in a fabricated “murder scene” orchestrated by the Kamyaran IRGC Intelligence to implicate him in the killing of a government agent.

In March 2024, Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court acquitted Javaheri of charges including “Moharebeh” (waging war against God), “propaganda against the state,” and “membership in opposition groups.” However, he still faces unresolved charges of “premeditated murder of an IRGC member” in a separate criminal case, for which no verdict has been issued.

State media had reported the death of Basij member Reza Azarbar in Kamyaran on November 15, 2022, accusing Pouria Javaheri of being the perpetrator.

Pouria’s father, Hassan Javaheri, has denied these accusations, calling them baseless. He stated that Pouria was working on a road construction project in a nearby village on the day of the incident, a claim corroborated by local witnesses. Despite this, Pouria was arrested on November 29, 2022, after being summoned by the IRGC Intelligence Office in Kamyaran during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests.
