Hiwa Moradi, a Kurdish man from Saqqez who was detained during the second anniversary of Jina Amini’s extrajudicial killing and the emergence of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, has been sentenced to eight months in prison.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Saqqez, presided over by Mojtaba Ghaffari sentenced Hiwa Moradi ,on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
A source close to the Moradi family revealed that Hiwa Moradi is also facing accusations in another case, including charges of “insulting sanctities.”
The prison sentence has been issued despite Moradi’s physical disability, as he is unable to bear the physical challenges of incarceration due to his mobility impairment in his left leg.
Moradi was arrested on September 13, 2024, four days before the anniversary of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement, by security forces. He was later temporarily released on bail pending the completion of his legal proceedings.
