Hengaw: Monday, November 4, 2024
Three Kurdish men from Oshnavieh (Shino)—Diako Azizi, Loqman Zangi, and Siamand Zangi—arrested during the mass arrests on the second commemoration of Jina Amini’s extrajudicial killing have each been sentenced to 16 months in prison.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Diako Azizi, 34, Loqman Zangi, 52, and his son Siamand Zangi, 22, were recently sentenced to 16 months of imprisonment by Branch 101 of Oshnavieh Criminal Court 2, presided over by Judge Ansari. All three were charged with “association and collaboration with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.”
The court session addressing the charges took place on October 26, 2024. Diako Azizi, from the village of Bab-e Khaledabad (Babkhalawi), and Loqman Zangi and his son Siamand, both residents of Oshnavieh, were initially arrested on September 4, 2024, as part of the broad arrest of Kurds ahead of the anniversary of Jina Amini’s extrajudicial killing.
Following three weeks of detention, they were temporarily released from Oshnavieh Central Prison on bails ranging between 1 billion and 200 million tomans, pending judicial proceedings.
During their detention, the three were held in the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center in Urmia, where they were denied access to legal representation and family visitation.
