Amirmohammad Hajari sentenced to more than three years in prison over January protests

Amirmohammad Hajari, a 24-year-old Kurdish man from Ashkhaneh in North Khorasan Province who was arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to three years, six months, and one day in prison.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Bojnord, presided over by Judge Sadegh Rafiei, sentenced Hajari on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Under the court's notification, he is required to report to prison next week to begin serving his sentence.

The court sentenced Hajari to three years, six months, and one day in prison on the charge of "assembly and collusion against national security," as well as an additional six months and one day for "propaganda against the state." Under Iran's sentencing aggregation rules, only the longest sentence—three years, six months, and one day—will be enforced.

Iranian security forces arrested Hajari during a raid on his home on January 18, 2026, without presenting a warrant.

He was held for four days at an undisclosed location before being transferred to Bojnord Central Prison. He was released on temporary bail on January 31, 2026.

Throughout the judicial proceedings, Hajari was denied access to the lawyer of his choosing and was never informed that his trial had taken place. During his detention, he was also denied telephone contact and family visits.
